Volunteer at Brookside Nature Center
Have fun, contribute to your community and learn about nature while volunteering at Brookside Nature Center. Volunteer opportunities include:
- Volunteer Naturalist--Would you like to share your love of nature? Assist with or lead parts of nature programs; help with research projects, displays, and the creation of educational materials.
- Camp Counselor--Do you like working with children? Help at our summer nature camps, held in June, July and August. Apply early!
- Nature Center Hostess or Host--Do you enjoy working with the public? Help nature center visitors by providing basic information on our programs and trails.
- Animal Care--Do you like working with animals? Help feed the birds and other wildlife or help care for our exhibit animals. Openings currently available for flying squirrel feeders!
- Special Events--Would you like to volunteer occasionally? Help at events such as Harvest Festival (October), Maple Sugar Festival (February), Halloween fairy tale hikes (October), and other special programs.
- Invasive Plant Removal--HELP! Invasive plants are taking over our parks--we need your help removing them from trails around the nature center.
- Flying Squirrel Feeders - We need volunteers who can come at dusk to feed the flying squirrels. The squirrels need to be fed several times a week, each feeding requiring about 30 minutes to get the food and place it on the three feeding platforms. Are you up for this?
Volunteers for Community Service and Eagle Scout Projects are also welcome. Let us know if you have a particular skill, but no previous experience is needed - we provide on the job training.
Volunteer training opportunities include: nature program assistance, campfire programs, seasonal nature topics, camp counselor skills, gardening and groundskeeping, and trail orientation.
