Project Description

This project includes improvements to the Brookside Gardens visitor's entrance, parking area and garden access, located at 1800 Glenallan Avenue, in Wheaton Regional Park. These improvements will provide a welcoming arrival atmosphere that sets the tone for a beautiful and unique garden experience.

Background

The 2005 Brookside Gardens Master Plan identified these projects as the first phases of a long range plan for the renewal of Brookside Gardens. The project includes additional parking, improved pedestrian and vehicular circulation, and better connections between the parking lot and gardens. In addition to the functional improvements, it creates a greatly enhanced arrival space for the gardens. This plan will be combined with entrance improvements so that the two projects are designed and constructed together. The plan incorporates green design features such as permeable paving, recycled materials for decking and boardwalks, and rain gardens.

Status/Project Update

Construction is scheduled in the adopted FY11-16 CIP.
