Officer Oglesby teaches self-defense.Certified Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) System Instructors Mary McDonnell and Sabrina Oglesby recently taught a R.A.D. class in Gaithersburg, Maryland. R.A.D. is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The R.A.D. System focuses on awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. The class meets for three hours a week for four weeks.
Donning a padded RedMan suit, Officer Sabrina Oglesby imitated an attacker to provide the women with hands-on training. The women wore helmets and pads and went one-on-one with the aggressor for one minute. They were taught how to yell, strike and kick to get away as soon as they can. Many of the participants said they did not realize how long a minute can last. They said they were scared and exhausted. Thanks to Officers Oglesby and McDonnell for providing this important training to Montgomery County residents.
